Minneapolis health officials are recommending wearing face masks indoors as COVID-19 cases rise

With the recent increase in COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations, health leaders in Minneapolis are recommending that everyone, including vaccinated people, wear masks indoors.

The Minneapolis Health Department updated its mask guidelines Thursday, saying masks should be worn in stores, theaters, schools, restaurants, and offices. They are also encouraging people to wear a fitted N95 mask if they have not received a COVID-19 booster shot.

Since mid-March, the city has seen a 340 percent increase in seven-day new cases, from 51 infections per 100,000 people to 227 infections per 100,000 people, city health officials said. The city now falls into the “high community transmission” category. The number of hospitalizations has also increased.
